Olivier Lombard returns to Le Mans 24 Hours with Morand

Frenchman Olivier Lombard will return to the Le Mans 24 Hours with the Swiss Morand Racing team in his bid to repeat his LMP2 triumph of 2011

Lombard, who raced with Morand when it was known as Hope PoleVision in the 2010 Le Mans Series, has signed to drive the team's Morgan-Judd/BMW LMP2 for a one-off appearance at the 24 Hours on June 22/23.

The 22-year-old, who won the P2 class at Le Mans with the Greaves Zytek squad in 2011, will race the car alongside full-season drivers Franck Mailleux and Natacha Gachnang.

Team boss Benoit Morand said: "Olivier is the best solution for us for Le Mans. We know him well from when he raced our Formula Le Mans [now known at LMPC] car in 2010 and we know he is quick.

"We tested with us at Motorland Aragon in February and we thought we might be able to do a deal for the season. Then it was decided that he should do the Porsche Carrera Cup in France."

Lombard will be making his third Le Mans start this year: he raced with Greaves in 2011 and then with the Signatech team as part of a full World Endurance Championship campaign last season.

"I'm pleased to be back with Franck, my team-mate at Signatech last year," said Lombard. "With the team, drivers and engine and car package, I believe we can be at the front of the grid in LMP2."
