Montagny not concerned with pole

Franck Montagny says his Pescarolo team are not too concerned with qualifying on pole position, although they will still aim for it

And the Frenchman, taking part in the Le Mans 24 Hours for the seventh time, believes it's best to focus on getting to the end of the race.

"Well, I don't have any expectations yet," he told autosport.com. "You know, I'm not thinking about fastest time or anything. I'm looking to finish the 24 Hours. I don't think it's really important to be on pole - it would just be an extra bonus."

Asked whether the team are looking for a fast time or just working on the race set-up, Montagny replied: "I think we're gonna go for pole with the race set-up."

With a very rainy first session, Montagny thinks his teammate, rally driver Sebastien Loeb, will need time to get to grips with the difficult conditions.

"The problem is it's raining a lot, it's difficult, so we don't know exactly what we're gonna do. Sebastien Loeb will need to run a bit in these conditions. Maybe I will run just at the end of the evening."

Montagny, who has a race-by-race deal with backmarkers Super Aguri team in Formula One, said he is happy with the temporary switch to the front-running Pescarolo-Judd C60.

"It's always good to take a break, especially when it's for a wonderful car like the Pescarolo. For sure it's good to be here with one of the fastest cars."

The main challenge for the French team will be to beat the Audi cars, with the German manufacturer winning the race five times out of the last six editions.

Montagny said he was confident but was, however, careful to avoid direct comparisons, stating: "It's very difficult to say, but from what we saw in pre-qualifying the car is very fast, so we'll see."
