James Walker confident of Le Mans Series GTE Pro title chance with JMW Ferrari
James Walker believes that the JMW Motorsport Ferrari team is ready to fight for Le Mans Series GTE Pro title in 2012 after finishing second in the standings last year
The former single seater racer joined GT star Rob Bell at the British team last year, and the pair only lost out to the AF Corse duo of Giancarlo Fisichella and Gianmaria Bruni in the title race.
Bell has now left the Ferrari fold to join McLaren's GT project, but Walker believes that the team is ready to fight for the title this year.
"I couldn't have asked for a better first year in sportscars - it was a dream start," said Walker on the main stage at this year's AUTOSPORT International.
"We ended up second in the LMS with Rob, and from my point of view, I want to win that championship this year.
"I still don't know who my team-mate will be, that's for the team to sort out and I think they're getting close. To come back and win the championship is the goal for this year, and I think we can do it."
Last year's result also earned JMW an entry for the Le Mans 24 Hours, and Walker is relishing the prospect of competing in the French classic for the first time.
"I've been there in World Series by Renault, and that's still a huge event," he added. "But it's not the 24-hour race. I can't wait until June; it's going to be a dream come true."
