Audi drivers hoping for dry race

"I would say that the rain is maybe pleasant for the farmers, but I would prefer it to be dry," said Tom Kristensen. "Le Mans at night is already quite dangerous. When it's wet as well, nobody enjoys it."

"I think the rain is a bad thing," agreed Emanuele Pirro. "Normally I like the wet, I enjoy driving in the wet. But racing in the wet here, with the straights, the visibility at night... I did it in 2001, and it wasn't much fun.

"If it rains too much then you can't go flat on the straight because you lose the car. It's very dangerous. You can't see anything. And also, it is a lot more risky. If you have a car that is good enough to win the race in the dry, you don't really want any uncertainties.

"I really hope it is going to be dry, but I don't think it will. They say it's going to be wet. And the worst is when it is dry, then wet. You can really lose a lot of time by stopping at the wrong time. And you can lose a lot more by not stopping at the right time!"
