Turner relishing three-way scrap
Aston Martin's Darren Turner is relishing the prospect of a three-way manufacturer scrap in the GT1 class at Le Mans
Preseason predictions had forecast a fight between Aston Martin and Corvette, however a third element has come into play in the form of the Team Oreca Saleen S7Rs, one of which qualified second-fastest in the class.
"Typically, over the last few years, it has only been between Aston and Corvette," Turner told autosport.com. "Saleen has been here before, but never run by a top-tunning team like Oreca.
"It's good that there is another car out there that is capable of running at the front, because that is more competition. If there are only two cars in it and one drops out, there is no competition left.
"But there are three manufacturers, and plenty of cars that could all have a good scrap.
"You've got two really quick Corvettes and one that's alright, you've got two Saleens that are quick, and then you've got three really quick Astons, one pretty quick Aston, and then maybe one that maybe isn't so quick out there.
"And there is the BMS as well, which nobody really knows about, with the Pirelli tyres. It's hard to say. Until we get into the race, we don't know.
"The car has the capability of being quick, but no-knows where the tyres are; whether they have made a step forward or not."
Turner's car, which he will share with veterans David Brabham and Rickard Rydell in the race, qualified fourth in class.
