Lola reveals LMP1 contender that will make its debut in the Sebring 12 Hours

British racing car constructor Lola has taken the wraps of its 2012 LMP1 contender.

British racing car constructor Lola has taken the wraps of its 2012 LMP1 contender.

The Lola B12/60, which will make its debut with Mazda power in the hands of Dyson Racing at the Sebring 12 Hours on March 17, is distinguished from its predecessors by heavily revised front-end aerodynamics.

The car also incorporates the wide front tyres now used by the majority of the LMP1 field and a shark's fin, which is mandatory from 2012.

Lola boss Martin Birrane said: "After a detailed aerodynamic development study over the autumn/winter period, our LMP1 car has effectively had a re-design for the 2012 season.

"Our customers share Lola's vision and technical thirst for continuous improvement, so we believe that all our entries in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the American Le Mans Series this year will again be competing for further silverware with the new-look Lola B12/60."

The first of two B12/60s ordered by Dyson left for the US at the weekend and will be given at test at Sebring this Saturday. Dyson will run a solo car in the WEC opener for Guy Smith, Chris Dyson and Steven Kane.

The Anglo-Swiss Rebellion Racing squad, which is running two cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship, will run its bespoke 2011 aero set-up at Sebring before switching to the 2012 bodywork for the second round of the series at Spa in May.
