6hrs: Herbert holds edge

Audi Sport UK continues to dominate at Le Mans as the sun begins to set, with Johnny Herbert increasing his comfortable one-lap lead over the Audi Japan Team Goh machine of Seiji Ara throughout the sixth hour of the event

Herbert has been able to lap consistently faster than Ara during his stint, with the Japanese driver's cause not helped by a brief off at the Mulsanne chicane.

The Pescarolo Judd of Benoit Treluyer remains third overall, but erstwhile fourth-place runner Jan Lammers has hit trouble in his Racing for Holland Dome. The car was forced to make a long pit-stop for a mechanical problem, and has dropped down to 19th spot. Martin Short has thus moved up to an amazing fourth in the Rollcentre Racing Dallara-Judd that he owns.

Further down the order, the Champion Audi R8 has now recovered to ninth overall, although the second Audi Sport UK machine lost further with a lengthy pit-stop.

GTS class leader Oliver Gavin has now moved up to fifth overall in his Chevrolet Corvette C5-R, and has been able to steadily pull away from the Prodrive Ferrari 550 of Peter Kox.

Petersen/White Lightning continues to lead the GT battle, with Patrick Long currently driving, ahead of Ralf Kelleners in the Freisinger Motorsport machine. The GT class sadly appears to have lost the works Morgan team, with Neil Cunningham forced to stop the machine out on track when his fuel tank ran dry.

Another GT car that continues to hit trouble is the Perrier/Perspective machine driven by Tim Sugden, which suffered its third puncture of the race, with the team at a loss to explain exactly why its Dunlop tyres were suffering so much.

Epsilon Sport driver Renaud Derlot continues to lead the LM2 class, although the previous class leading Courage has battled back up to second in class.
