A British team new to endurance racing in Europe is set to get the go-ahead for its plans to enter the European Le Mans Series in LMP2 this season.
The Woodard Racing Organisation, whose only previous international sportscar appearance came in the 2011 Sebring 12 Hours (pictured), has an agreement to buy a new HPD ARX-03b and is close to tying up deals with two funded drivers for the five-race ELMS.
Team boss Daniel Woodard said: "We have finalised a deal with HPD for a new car and contracts with two drivers are going through, so it is pretty much set in stone."
Woodard has yet to name the two drivers, but he has confirmed that 2013 ELMS GTE champion Johnny Mowlem will lead the attack alongside his prospective campaign in the World Endurance Championship with the Ram Racing Ferrari team.
WRO also has ambitions to contest the Asian Le Mans Series this season.
"We are talking to four or five drivers, but our first priority is getting everything for the ELMS sorted," said Woodard.
The team is planning to file an entry for the Le Mans 24 Hours, but Woodard stressed that he was under no illusions that his team would be successful in gaining a place on the grid in June at the first attempt.
WRO, which is based in Hastings on the south coast, moved up from the British national scene in 2011 with what turned out to be a one-off entry in the one-make prototype LMPC class at Sebring and has been inactive since.
The P2 class in the ELMS will also be boosted in 2014 by the return of the French Pegasus Racing squad with a Morgan-Nissan LMP2.
The team, which raced in the Le Mans Series in 2009-10 with a Courage LC75, is returning to LMP2 after a successful campaign in the SPEED EuroSeries for Group CN cars in 2013.
