Formula 3 racer Harry Tincknell impresses in Jota LMP2 test

European Formula 3 Championship frontrunner Harry Tincknell impressed the Jota LMP2 team on his first test in a sportscar this week

European Formula 3 Championship frontrunner Harry Tincknell impressed the Jota LMP2 team on his first test in a sportscar this week.

The 21-year-old Briton "did an excellent job", according to Jota team manager Sam Hignett, over the course of a two-day tyre test aboard the team's Zytek-Nissan Z11SN at the Aragon circuit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Harry did really well and did exactly what you'd want from a young driver in the car for the first time," Hignett said. "He built up slowly and ended up going very quickly."

Tincknell explained that the transition from a F3 car was relatively straightforward.

"I'd spoken to a few people who'd said an LMP2 was like a big F3 car, and I'd go along with that. I was able to jump in and feel at home inside 10 laps.

"The car is really fun to drive and, once you get the feeling for it, quite easy drive."

He was given three runs on Tuesday while team regular Simon Dolan undertook the majority of the running, before getting 110 laps on Wednesday.

Tincknell would not be drawn on whether he will move to sportscars next year, something that his mentor, Allan McNish, has said is on the cards.

"Right now, I am just focused on the last two races of the European F3 Championship and then Macau," he explained. "There is no doubt, with sportscar racing getting stronger and stronger, that it is one of the options."

A seat with Jota is one of those options: the British team is looking for a third driver to partner Dolan and Oliver Turvey in next year's European Le Mans Series when the duration of the races increases from three to four hours.
