Harry Tincknell to test LMP2 prototype
European Formula 3 Championship race winner Harry Tincknell is testing an LMP2 prototype this week with a view to swapping to sportscars next season
The 21-year-old Briton, who lies fifth in the European F3 points with Carlin, is testing a Zytek-Nissan Z11SN with the Jota European Le Mans Series squad at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain today and Wednesday.
Three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Allan McNish, who mentors Tincknell and helps manage him, explained that the test could lead to a switch of codes for a driver who has raced in F3 for the past three seasons.
"Harry has always had a wider view of motorsport, not just single-seaters, and I pushed him to have a look at other options for his career," he said.
"It is a big step up in budget [from F3] to move into Formula Renault 3.5 or GP2, so we thought we would consider something in sportscars. I'd like him to test a GT car at some point, as well.
"It could be a wise move and I think we will see Harry racing in sportscars, probably P2, next year."
McNish believes that Tincknell has the makings of a successful sportscar racer.
"He has bloody good racecraft, strong concentration and excellent fitness," he explained. "He has all the attributes of a good sportscar driver."
