10hrs: Class leaders clash

Jamie Davies continues to lead the Le Mans 24 Hours despite a major scare after a collision with the erstwhile GTS class leading Chevrolet Corvette C5-R of Jan Magnussen

The incident occurred on the entrance to the Dunlop curves when Magnussen turned in on Davies' Audi Sport UK R8, with the rear of the Corvette striking the front of the Audi. Magnussen was pitched into a spin and made heavy contact with the barriers, while Davies was able to continue. Shortly after the Audi pitted, but the mechanics decided that no repairs were necessary.

Magnussen wasn't so lucky, and lost several laps while repairs were completed on his car's bodywork, dropping him to second in class and 10th overall. The Prodrive Ferrari of Alain Menu has thus moved up to sixth overall and the lead of the GTS class.

Tom Kristensen continues to edge the Audi Sport Japan Goh car towards the lead R8, aided by Davies' earlier stop/go penalty for passing under yellow flags. Erik Comas runs third in the Pescarolo-Judd, ahead of Joao Barbosa in the Rollcentre Dallara.

Magnussen's misfortune has also provided a major psychological boost to JJ Lehto. The Finn's Champion Audi is now back in the top five after suffering major damage when it skidded off the circuit on oil early in the race. Lehto is lapping consistently fastest than the Rollcentre machine in fourth spot, but is still two laps behind.

The Kondo-Dome has moved up to sixth overall, while the recovering Zytek of David Brabham runs eighth. Ralph Firman has brought his Racing for Holland Dome back up to ninth overall.

Jorg Bergmeister continues to lead in the GT class in the Petersen/White Lightning Porsche 911 GT3-RSR, while the Intersport Racing Lola-Judd continues to lead in LM2.
