Silverstone WEC: Nick Heidfeld sets practice pace for Rebellion
Nick Heidfeld put Rebellion Racing on top of the timesheets in the final practice session for the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone
The former grand prix driver was one of the last drivers lapping on a drying circuit and knocked Tom Kristensen's Audi off the top spot with a 1m47.993 lap in his Lola-Toyota.
Kristensen's best lap was 0.070 seconds slower than the German's. Andrea Belicchi completed an excellent session for Rebellion in third. His co-driver Mathias Beche had earlier had a spin at Club.
Stephane Sarrazin spun the #8 Toyota into the gravel at Club with less than 10 minutes of the session remaining, bringing his car's participation in the session to an end.
His car wound up fifth, a spot behind the sister machine.
LMP2 honours went to OAK Racing thanks to its Morgan line-up of Alex Brundle/Olivier Pla/David Heinemeier Hansson, the #24 machine 1.6s clear of the sister car of Bertrand Baguette/Martin Plowman/Ricardo Gonzalez.
Aston Martin was fastest in both GTE classes; the Stefan Mucke/Darren Turner/Bruno Senna car nearly three seconds up on the manufacturer's other entry in the Pro class and Christoffer Nygaard topping the tables in the Am division.
The session was red-flagged at close to half-distance after Christian Ried crashed his Proton Porsche at Copse.
