WEC Silverstone: Andre Lotterer puts Audi on top in Friday practice
Audi topped the times at the end of a rain-interrupted first day of the World Endurance Championship opener at Silverstone
Andre Lotterer ended up with the fastest time of the two free practice sessions on Friday with a 1m43.217s.
His time aboard the #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro shaded team-mate Loic Duval by less than five one hundredths of a second.
Lotterer, who is teamed with Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler, said: "Today wasn't about going for lap time. We were trying to find a balance.
"I was lucky enough to be on the track when it was fully dry and I was able to see what I could do."
Lotterer insisted that little should be read into the Audi going one second fastest than the best of the Toyotas.
"It is good to see yourself at the top of the times, but we are not getting carried away," he explained. "We don't know what tyres they are using, the soft or the hard compound."
Nicolas Lapierre set the best time of the two Toyota TS030 HYBRIDS on a 1m43.843s.
Tom Kristensen, who shares the #2 Audi with Duval and Allan McNish, had earlier been fastest in the wet opening practice session.
The quickest privateer LMP1 was the Strakka Racing HPD ARX-03 driven by Danny Watts on a time of 1m45.287s
The LMP2 division was headed by sportscar debutant Mike Conway in the best of the G-Drive/Delta-ADR ORECA-Nissan 03s.
His time of 1m50.166s was half a second quicker than Tom Kimber-Smith in the Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nisan Z11SN.
The GTE Pro battle was led by Toni Vilander in the fastest of AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italias, while Jamie Campbell-Walter was quickest in GTE Am for Aston Martin Racing.
