Nicolas Minassian joins Jota for Silverstone round of the World Endurance Championship

Ex-Peugeot factory driver Nicolas Minassian will drive for the Jota LMP2 team in the Silverstone round of the FIA World Endurance Championship later this month

Minassian, who raced the Pescarolo-run Dome-Judd S102.5 LMP1 at the Spa and Le Mans 24 Hours WEC rounds earlier this season, has been signed by the British squad to race its Zytek-Nissan Z11SN at the Silverstone 6 Hours on August 26 alongside team regulars Sam Hancock and Simon Dolan.

Jota team boss Sam Hignett, whose team won LMP2 at the Spa WEC event in May, said: "We want to continue to improve as a team and to win the race, and bringing in someone of Nic's experience can only help on both counts. Running three drivers will also give us more flexibility on strategy.

"He is the guy I have always cited as the reason I stopped racing because of the speed he used to come past me in the Le Mans Series in 2004-05. I've been trying for ages to get Nic in one of our cars and I'd like to keep him in some way in the future."

Minassian, who also drove Sebastien Loeb Racing's ORECA-Nissan in the two 2012 European Le Mans Series events at Paul Ricard and Donington Park, said: "It will be good to get out at Silverstone, because it is a special place for me: I've won in every category I've raced there and it is one of my favourite race tracks.

"I'm happy to race in P2, because if you haven't got a factory LMP1 deal it is the place to be because it is so competitive."

Jota is one of three LMP2 teams that started the season in the ELMS, which has now cancelled its final two races in favour of joining up with the American Le Mans Series for its Road Atlanta finale in October, on the entry for Silverstone.

Status Grand Prix and Murphy Prototypes are also contesting the British WEC round with their respective Lola-Judd/BMW B12/80 and ORECA-Nissan 03 P2 contenders.
