Le Mans 2017 team by team guide
Your complete guide to all the teams, cars and drivers tackling the 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours
A slimmed-down LMP1 entry might give the indication of a weaker top-brass in the World Endurance Championship this season, but that will be reduced to a minor insignificance if Porsche and Toyota go wheel-to-wheel for the 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours.
Toyota's quest for redemption after last-gasp heartbreak in the 2016 edition of the French class is the main storyline at the Circuit de la Sarthe this week, but with a packed grid including a monster LMP2 contingent and top-class GTE factory entries there is a lot to watch out for through the field.

Gary Watkins has, for reasons best known to himself, devoted all his working life to covering sportscar racing. This season is his 33rd as a motorsport journalist, during which time he has reported on major long-distance events on four continents and approaching 80 24-hour races. He reckons a degree in political philosophy makes him well qualified for covering the sometimes Machiavellian world of international sportscars.
Gary, who also writes for Motor Sport, Autocourse, RACER and others, lives in Surbiton close to the former workshops of the Cooper Formula 1 team but spends more time on the road than at home for most of the year.
