Todd Kelly on pole at Oran Park
Holden Racing Team's Todd Kelly took his third V8 Supercar pole position of 2007 as he went fastest in qualifying for the first race of the Jim Beam 400 at Oran Park in Sydney
Kelly, who will become the youngest driver to 100 starts when he starts in race one, celebrated the milestone by putting his car on pole position ahead of championship leader, Toll HSV's Garth Tander.
Tander set the second fastest time despite a moment late in the final session when Kelly's teammate, Mark Skaife, looked set to steal pole before a spin coming off the bridge, Tander just able to avoid the spinning Holden Racing Team driver, who went on to set the third best time.
Lee Holdsworth drove superbly to put his Valvoline Cummins Commodore in fourth, just ahead of Tander's teammate Rick Kelly, Holdens filling the top five grid positions in a season which has seen them take 17 wins in 20 races so far.
The Ford Performance Racing duo of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards were the best of the Fords in sixth and eighth, split by Tasman Motorsport's Jason Richards, with Jamie Whincup and Jason Bright completing the top ten.
Will Davison, Paul Morris and Dean Canto were unlucky to miss the top ten runoff, as just over one hundredth of a second split eighth and 13th fastest in the second session.
A couple of fancied runners didn't even make it as far as the second session, with Jeld-Wen Motorsport's James Courtney and Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes, currently fourth in the championship, starting race one from 22nd and 23rd respectively.
There was some good news down the order however, with Team Kiwi Racing returning to the series with a new alliance with Stone Brothers Racing. Rookie Shane van Gisbergen did well to set 29th fastest time in his first ever V8 Supercar qualifying session.
