Tander wins race two

Toll HSV Dealer Team's Garth Tander took victory in the second race of the Desert 400 in Bahrain as his teammate's title hopes took a hit

Tander led virtually from start to finish to keep his slim title hopes alive, taking a comfortable win ahead of Jason Bright, who was clearly quicker than everyone else, but not fast enough to hang on to Tander. Bright's teammate Mark Winterbottom completed the podium places.

But there was not such good news for Tander's teammate Rick Kelly. A collision between Kelly and James Courtney at turn one on the opening lap cost both cars, Kelly losing four laps as repairs were made to his damaged car. Both cars finished, Courtney in 24th and Kelly in 28th.

Of course, to Kelly's closest title challenger Craig Lowndes this was good news, Lowndes showing improved pace to finish in fifth, one place behind the elder Kelly, Todd.

Todd Kelly's teammate Mark Skaife looked set for a top ten or top five finish until he made contact with Paul Dumbrell, earning himself a drive-through penalty, eventually finishing in nineteenth position.

Two places further back was Russell Ingall who also received a penalty after contact in pit lane. The race also saw the end of reigning champion Ingall's slim title hopes.
