Tander takes race 2
Garth Tander bounced back from a penalty in race one to take victory in race two of the PlaceMakers V8 International at Pukekohe Park Raceway, New Zealand
Tander took the lead on lap twelve and never looked back as he made up some of the ground he lost yesterday when he was penalised for a jump start.
Jason Richards made a similar recovery after power steering problems yesterday to finish second, with Mark Winterbottom taking third after a fourth place finish in race one.
Winterbottom will be among those at the front of the grid in race three, along with fifth and sixth place finishers Mark Skaife and Russell Ingall who finished first and second in race one.
Craig Lowndes will start a little further back than he expected after receiving a contentious penalty for a incident with Rick Kelly, dropping him from tenth to seventeenth in the closing laps of the race.
The start of the race saw some of the expected carnage of the reverse grid format, an incident at the front of the field at the hairpin effectively ending the races of front runners such as Steven Richards and Jamie Whincup as they were left nowhere to go as they exited the corner.
Racing resumed soon after but a red flag followed soon after when a stuck throttle sent John Bowe hard into the fence at turn one.
Surprisingly most of the field had made their compulsory pit stops by this time and so the remainder of the race was fairly quiet, although there were some moves as the front runners moved slowly back towards the leaders.
