Tander on Symmons race one pole

Tander was third-fastest heading into the shoot-out but topped the times in the run-off for the top 10 grid positions, just edging out Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes by three hundredths of a second. Lowndes had topped the times before the shoot-out.

Third-fastest for Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom was not too much of a surprise, but the identity of the driver alongside on the second row was -Greg Murphy sneaking into the shoot-out in 10th and then setting the fourth-fastest time, in the same week it was announced he will not be driving for the team next year.

Fujitsu Racing's Lee Holdsworth and Winterbottom's team-mate Steven Richards fill the next row, with Michael Caruso, Jason Bright, Russell Ingall and Paul Dumbrell completing the top 10.

Just outside the top 10, in 11th and 12th respectively, are the two leading championship contenders, Jamie Whincup and James Courtney, both drivers missing the shoot-out for only the second time this year, with their closest rival Lowndes starting from the front row.

Unfortunately for Will Davison, his 2010 struggles continued today, his 18th position on the grid made even more frustrating by having his team-mate Tander on pole position.
