Tander on Pukekohe pole
Toll HSV Dealer Team's Garth Tander has taken pole position for this weekend's PlaceMakers V8 International at Pukekohe Park Raceway, New Zealand
Tander was sixth fastest in qualifying but set the best time in the top ten shootout to take pole position for the first of the weekend's three races, as reverse grids make a return to the series in race two.
Alongside Tander will be Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife, who was second fastest in both sessions as his strong 2006 form continues.
Behind these two Holdens come a string of Fords, with Clipsal 500 race one winner Craig Lowndes leading 2005 series champion Russell Ingall, Ford Performance Racing (FPR) teammates Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom and Clipsal 500 race two and round winner Jamie Whincup.
FPR must be hoping that this is a sign that they finally can fight at the front, while for Stone Brothers Racing's Russell Ingall it is a welcome return to form after struggling a little so far in 2006.
'King of Pukekohe' Greg Murphy had a somewhat disappointing qualifying and will start ninth. Albert Park V8 overall victor Steven Richards will start eleventh, while Todd Kelly and rookie James Courtney will start fourteenth and fifteenth, while their teammates start second and fourth respectively.
