Tander cruises to race three victory

Toll HSV Dealer Team's Garth Tander showed why he is on top of the points as he took victory in race three of the Bigpond 400 at Queensland Raceway

Tander led virtually from start to finish to cap off a fantastic weekend for the championship leader. Two wins and a second place in the reverse-grid race meant he was unbeatable for the round victory.

Second place in race three was taken by his teammate Rick Kelly, who was closely followed by a trio of Fords in the form of Jason Bright, Craig Lowndes and Russell Ingall. Bright and Lowndes completed the podium for the round, edging out Rick Kelly thanks to Kelly's race one spin.

However, James Courtney looked set to cap off a fantastic weekend, running second and on target for second overall when engine problems ended his race just after half distance.

It brought the safety car out just as Mark Skaife went off at turn one, continuing his up and down weekend, as he finished 27th. Teammate Todd Kelly fared little better, going for a spin on his own to finish the race in eighteenth.

Tander's win moves him 38 points clear of Lowndes, with Tander's teammate Rick Kelly just seven points back. 123 points separate Kelly from fourth-placed Russell Ingall, with Mark Winterbottom 39 points behind Ingall and Steven Richards 47 behind Winterbottom.

The rest of the field is over 380 points behind, with each of the remaining seven rounds worth a maximum of 320 points.
