Mark Winterbottom leads all-Ford Performance Racing front row for Symmons Plain V8 Supercars race one
Mark Winterbottom led team-mate Will Davison as Ford Performance Racing filled the front row of the grid for race one of V8 Supercars' Symmons Plains weekend
Winterbottom's 51.4020-second lap in the closing moments of the session saw him edge his team-mate by just 0.090s.
Shane van Gisbergen was also a pole threat in the Stone Brothers Ford, but had to settle for third as FPR took control.
Reigning champion Jamie Whincup had a messy first lap and never quite managed to get into the pole battle, though his final lap brought the Triple Eight Holden driver up to fourth, ahead of his team-mate Craig Lowndes and Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander.
