Lee Holdsworth faces Supercars absence after fracturing pelvis

Supercars driver Lee Holdsworth has fractured his pelvis in an accident at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway and is facing a stint on the sidelines

The Holden driver was spat out of the pack on the opening lap of Sunday's race and his Commodore made heavy, side-on contact with a concrete wall.

Holdsworth was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where the fracture was diagnosed, along with minor injuries to his chest and left elbow, and he has been ruled out of at least the next round at Townsville on July 8-10.

He will be replaced by former full-time Supercars racer Karl Reindler, who had already been signed to partner Holdsworth in September and October's two-driver endurance races.

WHINCUP BACK ON TOP AS WINS SPLIT

Six-time champion Jamie Whincup returned to the top of the Supercars standings with a second and an eighth from the two Darwin races.

Nissan's Michael Caruso claimed his first win since 2009 on Saturday, leading home Whincup and Chaz Mostert.

Shane van Gisbergen (pictured below) took the honours on Sunday, his second win since joining Triple Eight at the start of the season, with Tim Slade second and Craig Lowndes third.

Reigning champion Mark Winterbottom headed to Darwin as the points leader, but was ninth on Saturday and 20th on Sunday, after a pair of incidents and penalties.

Winterbottom drops to fourth in the points, behind Whincup, Lowndes and Scott McLaughlin.
