Davison wins race two at Winton

Jim Beam Racing's Will Davison took his second career V8 Supercar victory with a controlled effort in race two at Winton

Davison jumped into the lead at the start, and didn't look back despite an incident just behind him at the esses at the start, only losing the lead temporarily during the compulsory pitstop phase. In the early laps, he was chased hard by Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander, but after the pitstops he opened up a small gap over them.

However, he still came under pressure in the closing laps after Mark Winterbottom, who started 21st after his flat tyre early in race one, stayed out long befor his pitstop, vaulting him up to second place just a couple of seconds behind Davison, but unable to take the win.

Tander completed the top three after passing Whincup on lap 28 of 40, Whincup having to fend off teammate Craig Lowndes in the closing laps.

After being penalised for contact with Rick Kelly after finishing sixth in race one and being demoted to eighteenth, Lee Holdsworth charged back up the order in race two finishing in seventh place a quarter of a second behind his race one nemesis Rick Kelly.

Jason Bright made a similar charge through the field, moving up from twentiteth to finish eighth, ten seconds clear of James Courtney who just held off Paul Dumbrell to complete the top ten.

The incident at the start of the race at the esses cost several drivers dearly after the two Richards argued over the same piece of track through the esses, ending with Jason spinning in front of most of the field after contact from Steven.

Somehow almost all the field missed the spinning Jason Richards except for Michael Caruso who slammed into the side of him, ending both their races.

As Steven Richards took action to avoid the spinning Jason Richards, he moved over on Russell Ingall, breaking Ingall's steering, while in the mayhem behind, Skaife was hit from behind and slammed hard into the old pitwall on the inside of the exit of the turn.

Steven Richards managed to continue and looked set for a sixth place finish before he was forced to make a lengthy pitstop to replace a damaged rear halfshaft, returning to the track with a repaired car to finish the race nine laps down in last place.
