Bathurst tribute to Brock revealed

V8 Supercars Australia have announced their generous tribute to Peter Brock, including a tribute on Bathurst race morning and the naming of the winners' trophy in his honour

The winners of the Bathurst 1000 will receive the perpetual 'Peter Brock Trophy' as a tribute to the man who took a record nine victories in the endurance event. The trophy will also feature Brock's nickname 'King of the Mountain' in deference to those Mount Panorama wins.

The front row at this year's Bathurst event will be left vacant in tribute to Brock's six pole positions in the 1000 km enduro, a record that still stands.

"We want to do what we feel is most appropriate and with the full support of Peter's family," said V8 Supercars Australia Chairman Tony Cochrane.

"One of the things that we are very conscious of is that Peter would not have wanted any changes made to the format of the Great Race as first and foremost he was a fierce competitor.

"By naming the trophy we forever honour his name. I dare say that no-one will ever match his record at Mount Panorama so there is no more fitting tribute than for the winners of the race to be afforded the honour."

October 8, race day for this year's Bathurst 1000 will begin with a tribute to the legend that is Peter Brock.

It will include a Champion's Lap of Honour featuring as many of Brock's victorious Bathurst cars as possible.

It is hoped that they will be driven by Brock's son James and Brock's winning co-drivers in those victories, including Bathurst legends Jim Richards and Larry Perkins.

Close associates of Brock, V8 Supercar champions Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes, have also been invited to take part in the parade depending on availability of cars and drivers.

Australian singer Iva Davies will perform the famous David Bowie song 'Heroes' to a montage covering Peter Brock's life.
