Whincup and Bourdais claim a qualifying clean sweep at Surfers Paradise

Jamie Whincup and Sebastien Bourdais will start from pole position for the final race of the V8 Supercars weekend in Surfers Paradise, completing a clean sweep of qualifying at the event

The pair had already guided the #88 Triple Eight Holden to pole position and then victory in the opening race, allowing Whincup to move into the lead of the championship.

Whincup set his fastest time on the final lap of the session to edge out the HRT Holden of Garth Tander and secure pole, and with it a $10,000 cash bonus.

Tander had spells at the top but was ultimately forced to settle for second. He and partner Ryan Briscoe will be looking to atone for their race one woe, when Briscoe pitted prematurely and before completing his minimum quota of laps, effectively dropping them out of podium contention.

The FPR Fords of Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison also enjoyed spells at the top of the timesheets, with Winterbottom edging the fight for third.

He and team-mate Richard Lyons came through from 17th on the grid to capture the final podium spot in the opening race, finishing just behind Davison and his team-mate Mika Salo.

After struggling with technical issues throughout the first race, erstwhile points leader Craig Lowndes captured fifth in the #888 Triple Eight Holden he shares with triple World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx.
