Rossi keen to test V8 Supercar

Valentino Rossi says he is eager to try a V8 Supercar - but will probably not do so until his MotoGP career is over

The seven-time MotoGP world champion has long planned to race cars after he retires from motorcycle competition, though the World Rally Championship has been cited as his most likely post-MotoGP destination since he called time on his Formula 1 ambitions four years ago.

He is also considering the Australian-based V8 touring car series, and admitted he had already begun making enquiries.

"I spoke with some guys already last year and also with some drivers, who offered me a car to drive, but for now it's difficult because going to Australia is quite far for me," Rossi said. "I want to, but in two, three or four years, when I finish with motorcycles. I'm not in a hurry."

The Italian thinks it would be logistically difficult to even test a V8 machine between the demands of the MotoGP calendar.

"I think it would be difficult to organise the test [while racing in MotoGP]," Rossi admitted. "I just like that type of car, for sure they are very fast and they look good to drive, so I want to try one.

"But when? I don't know. It depends on the schedules. I think it will be difficult for now, I'm saying it more for the future."

V8 Supercar recently welcomed a host of international guest stars for its Surfers Paradise event, and is keen to attract more big names from other disciplines in future years.
