Alesi wins Sakhir Speedcar race one
Jean Alesi beat fellow Formula One veteran Heinz-Harald Frentzen to victory in the first of this weekend's Speedcar races at Sakhir
Frentzen had qualified on pole position, heading a group of former F1 drivers in Alesi, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Gianni Morbidelli and reigning champion Johnny Herbert.
But a poor start dropped Frentzen to fourth place, and allowed Alesi to make a break in the lead.
Frentzen forced his way past Morbidelli to take third, then out-braked Herbert for second, before closing on Alesi, who was able to hang on and take victory by just over one second.
Herbert completed the podium ahead of Morbidelli, with Hasher Al Maktoum beating series debutant and former FIA GT champion Thomas Biagi to fifth.
Dubai race-winner Liuzzi had to retire after sustaining damage in a tangle with Marchy Lee.
