Aston Martin celebrate 'elusive' win

All three drivers of the No. 009 Aston Martin DBR9 have expressed their joy at finally winning the GT1 class at Le Mans

Darren Turner, David Brabham and Rickard Rydell had all come close to winning the class in previous years, but they were as pleased for their team as they were for themselves.

"It's been three years of waiting, but the car ran pretty much like clockwork throughout the race," said Turner.

"It's great to win it this year because it's been the toughest year in GT1 and the weather just mixed it up more."

Turner was one of several team members to spray champagne from the pit wall as Brabham brought the car across the line in the treacherous conditions.

"It's great to get Aston Martin that elusive win," said Brabham. "They were very difficult conditions out there, and we were kind of lucky that we did not have to push too hard."

Rydell was a new addition to the Aston Martin project for this year, but the Swede has raced for Prodrive in the past at Le Mans, although he missed out on the year they won their class in a Ferrari.

"I was here in 2002 and 2004 with Prodrive, but I missed the winning year (2003)," he said. "I chose a good year to come back."

The trio finished fifth overall in the race, and they were one lap ahead of the No. 63 Corvette at the chequered flag.
