Priaulx keeps options open

Renault Spider Cup champion Andy Priaulx tested a Formula 3 car, but admitted he was keeping his options open for 2000

The 25-year-old, who won a record-breaking 13 races in the Spider Cup, drove a Promatecme Renault at yesterday's specially arranged session at Silverstone.

Priaulx has been testing touring cars since the end of the season and told AUTOSPORT Online that he was in discussion with two BTCC teams.

However, the Guernsey racer, has not ruled out a return to F3.

He drove for the Speedsport F3 team in 1997, but now admits he was not ready to drive in the single-seater category.

'I wasn't really ready to take on F3 at the time,' he said following Monday's test.

'I've taken this test very, very seriously. My driving has really matured over the last 18 months and I'd love to give it another go.

'However, I'm still in discussion with touring car teams, so I want to keep my options open.

'Last year was fantastic and I hope my CV will speak louder than words.

'I'm most grateful to Renault UK for the opportunity to take the car out.

'This year's season in the Renault Spiders has opened a lot of doors for me and all the racing experience I can get throughout the winter will be invaluable to me in whatever discipline I decide to go with in 2000.'
