Megane's in control of Pirelli Rally
The Renault team dominated the first day of the Pirelli International Rally
Finns Tapio Laukkanan/Kaj Lindstrom in front of finished the first leg ahead of British team-mates Martin Rowe/Derek Ringer.
Laukkanen, driving the Megane, took charge of the Rally, based around Carlisle, setting great times in the first three of the day's seven stages.
The 1997 champion Mark Higgins is chasing hard in the VW Golf, but the SEAT of Gwyndaf Evans is more than one minute behind, after hitting mechanical trouble. However, his team-mate Toni Gardermeister is in fourth.
