Truex accepts blame for Glen crash

Martin Truex Jr has accepted that he was to blame for the incident involving Juan Pablo Montoya and Kevin Harvick in last Sunday's Nextel Cup race at Watkins Glen

Truex was attacking Montoya for sixth place on a restart with 17 laps remaining and tapped the rear of the No. 42 car under braking while the Colombian tried to protect the inside line going into Turn 1.

Montoya was unable to stop his car after Truex's push and ran into the side of Kevin Harvick's Chevrolet. The accident generated some animosity between the pair afterwards, as Harvick apparently ignored the fact that Montoya had been pushed into him by Truex driver.

"I hate that I got into Juan Pablo," Truex said. "I got a great restart and he swerved down to block me. He hit the brakes aggressively and looked like he was already getting loose going into the corner and we made contact.

"That's the first time I've been involved in anything like that since I've been Cup racing."

While Montoya and Harvick were out of contention after the crash, Truex was able to drive away from the incident without damage, finishing the race sixth and distancing himself from Kurt Busch's 12th place in the standings.

"The main thing for us is that we had a good points day," Truex added. "The car wasn't that good when we started, but Bono (crew chief Kevin Manion) and the guys kept working on it.

"They tried different air pressure adjustments, track bar adjustments, you name it. By the end of the day we had a top 10 car and we got the finish we deserved."

Truex Jr is currently 11th in the Nextel Cup standings and the only DEI driver currently in position to make the Chase.
