Stremme fastest in today's practice
David Stremme was fastest for the first time in Speedweeks 2006, topping the timesheet in the penultimate free practice session before Sunday's Daytona 500
It was the first really warm session of the week so far, and the field used the opportunity to finalise their race set-up for Sunday's event with temperatures expected to stay in the mid-twenties for the race.
Robby Gordon, who successfully qualified for the event yesterday, was second quickest, only 0.001 seconds slower than Stremme around the 2.5-mile Super Speedway.
Kevin Harvick, who had been setting the pace in the free practice sessions last weekend, returned to form with the third fastest time ahead of Jeff Green and Bill Elliott.
The session passed off without major incident. Mike Wallace, Kevin Le Page and Matt Kenseth chose to stay in the garage to preserve their engines for Sunday's main event.
There is one more free practice session left for the event tomorrow.
