Yeley takes Busch pole
JJ Yeley scored his first NASCAR Busch Series pole by topping the timesheets in qualifying for Saturday's Hershey's Kissables 300 at Daytona
Yeley, who is also racing in Sunday's prestigious Daytona 500 with Joe Gibbs Racing, lapped the 2.5 mile superspeedway in 49.155 seconds beating Aaron Fike by just 0.043 seconds.
"It was a scary lap and I was trying to have enough courage to hold this thing wide open," Yeley said. "The car runs good and I hope it will be exceptional by the draft."
The Chevrolet driver said he wants to learn as much as possible for Sunday's 500 in the Busch race.
"You have to use it as a learning tool, the biggest thing you can get in this sport is some track time out there and learn how people draft," Yeley added. "If everything goes right I'll lead the whole thing and I won't learn anything in the pack."
Clint Bowyer, another driver racing in the Daytona 500, will start the Busch race third ahead of Johnny Sauter.
John Andretti starts fifth, and despite a long Nextel Cup career is classed as the top rookie due to his lack of Busch experience.
Former Champ Car champion Paul Tracy will start 37th out of the 43 cars for his first NASCAR race.
