Sorenson Docked 50 Points
NASCAR have docked Busch series driver Reed Sorenson 50 points following the addition of illegal substances to his tyres at Bristol Motor Speedway
They have also banned the car's crew chief, Brian Pattie for six races and given him a $35,000 fine. Pattie will be on probation until the end of the season.
Pattie was found to be in violation of actions detrimental to stock car racing and any possession of or use of one or more tyres that have been altered externally by unauthorized treatment.
Crew member Brandon Stafford will also receive the same length of ban following the incident. Both were ejected from Bristol before last weekend's race, and Sorenson had to find a new crew chief for the race, and was denied a qualifying attempt. He recovered to 11th by the chequered flag.
Sorenson's points penalty has not lost him his current third position, but it will make it harder for him to make up the deficit to Martin Truex Jr.
Sorenson team owner Chip Ganassi was penalised 50 team owner points.
