Race: Jarrett wins at New Hampshire

Dale Jarrett took full advantage of a late restart to grab victory in the New England 300 NASCAR Winston Cup race at New Hampshire on Sunday

The 1999 champion biffed his way into the lead with just three laps to go from team mate Ricky Rudd, who also lost out to Jeff Gordon in the final sprint to the flag. The restart followed the race's 10th caution period when Jerry Nadeau tangled with fellow frontrunner Jimmy Spencer and crashed out.

Others to hit the wall included Jeremy Mayfield, Dave Blaney and Johnny Benson. The day's most spectacular wreck befell Ron Hornaday, however, whose car slid against the backstretch wall on two wheels before dropping back on to the track and spinning.

Jarrett, who took his fourth win of the season, now moves into the lead of the championship having arrived at Loudon tied on points with Gordon.

Gordon had dominated the first half of the race, leading every lap but one until Jarrett moved to the front after the day's fourth caution on lap 125. Rudd hit the front on lap 217, after stopping a lap later than Jarrett and Gordon.

Despite his clash with Nadeau, Spencer finished fourth with last year's race winner Tony Stewart in fifth. Steve Park, reigning champion Bobby Labonte, leading rookie Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr and the returning Mike Wallace rounded out the top ten.
