Round-up: Gordon stays; Mayfield tops
NASCAR Winston Cup super-sub Robby Gordon will continue to drive a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in place of the injured Mike Skinner in the next two rounds of the series
After a circumspect 25th place finish at New Hampshire, Gordon will contest both the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis and the Watkins Glen road course events in the number 31, Lowes-backed machine.
"We think Mike will be ready to race at Michigan," said Childress. "We've decided to keep Robby in the car to give Mike more time to heal."
Jeremy Mayfield put his disastrous season aside to top the NASCAR testing times at Indianapolis this week. On Wednesday morning he lapped the famous Brickyard in 50.758s (177.312mph) in his Mobil-backed Ford. Casey Atwood's Dodge was second quickest, 0.23secs in arrears, while series leader Dale Jarrett was eighth fastest.
