Montoya open-minded about Atlanta
Juan Pablo Montoya says he doesn't know what to expect from this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway where he will again race both in the Busch Series and the Nextel Cup
The Colombian had a disapointing weekend in Las Vegas where despite qualifying fourth for the Cup race he only managed to finish 22nd.
The Busch race was no different as he started from 35th and simply survived in the difficult conditions to finish 20th and several laps down on the winner.
Montoya has been frustrated by his and his team's lack of consistency from race to race and during every race weekend on ovals, leading him to be uncertain about his prospects for the coming race.
"It's hard to know what to expect and what not to expect," Montoya told autosport.com. "The team has improved a lot but we still have to work more to be able to be competitive every weekend.
"I don't know, we have to wait and see. It could a very good weekend or turn out to be a very bad one. Every weekend I come to the track with a very open mind because I know that there will be very tough races were you'll have to see if you can just get something out of it."
The Ganassi driver believes his progress within the series is not being helped by the fact that the other two drivers from the team, David Stremme and Redd Sorenson, have a very different approach to his in terms of setting up their cars.
"What happens is that what I'm looking to get from the car is very different to what the other two drivers want from it," he said. "You can see that on our set-ups, they're different.
"That makes things even tougher for me because it's hard to compare to them and make any progress based on that.
"However at Vegas when our car was working fine, I was by far the fastest from the team."
Montoya is currently 22nd in the Nextel Cup standing and 15th in the Busch Series. His best race result to date in an oval has been the 19th place he achieved at Daytona.
