Montoya not expecting a trend

Juan Pablo Montoya is not expecting a large number of open-wheel drivers to follow him in to NASCAR in the near future

The Colombian finished 11th on his Busch series debut at Memphis two weeks ago and last weekend qualified in the top 10 at Texas.

However, this week's Autosport reports that he doesn't believe that open-wheel drivers would all be able to succeed if more of them started switching to stock cars.

"It's not easy to drive one of these cars, and it's not easy to drive an open wheel car either," he said.

"To think open-wheel drivers are going to come here and beat everyone, it doesn't work that way."

Montoya is not the only open-wheel driver to try NASCAR this year. Paul Tracy made a handful of starts in the Busch Series this year, while AJ Allmendinger failed to qualify for the Nextel Cup race at Texas last weekend.

The Ganassi could be joined by another Indianapolis 500 winner at Phoenix this weekend, as Sam Hornish Jr will attempt to make his debut with Penske Racing South.

Montoya said after the Texas race that he could make his Nextel Cup debut in the season finale at Homestead, and he added that a decision would be made after the race at Phoenix.
