Kyle Busch wins Nationwide at Fontana

Kyle Busch claimed one of his most dominant wins of the season in the Camping World RV Service 300 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana

The Sprint Cup series points leader started from pole position and paced the field all night long. Not even a smaller restrictor at a 'power' track, nor the suspension that a number of crew members from the team are serving were enough to prevent Busch from winning his seventh Nationwide race of the year.

As the race progressed though, it all started to look way too familiar for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, resembling what had happened a week ago when he led nearly the whole Sprint Cup race at Bristol, only to be bumped out of the lead in the closing stages by Roush Fenway's Carl Edwards, leading to a post-race exchange that has both of them under probation.

However, this time Busch was superior and he was able to keep it all together on the last restart with eight laps to go to win a NASCAR-sanctioned race for the eighteenth time this year including his victories across the three main NASCAR series.

"It was a great race car tonight," said Busch before dedicating his victory to the suspended JGR crew members. "It was just a phenomenal job by all of the guys at the shop. I've really got to thank Jason Ratcliff, Dave Rogers and all the boys that have been on this team that deserve to be on this team here at the race track that weren't.

"They just did such a great job in paying attention to detail and being able to put this car together and making it a phenomenal car to drive."

Carl Edwards came home in a good second place, which allowed him to close on the runner-up place in the championship. The closest he got to Busch all night was at the finish line at the end of the race, when he jokingly bumped the rear end of the Toyota as the race finished under caution.

"Oh yeah, I was just messing around with him," Edwards said. "I couldn't get to him to hit him all day. Even if I wanted to wreck him, I couldn't because he was so fast. It was a good race and tomorrow's going to be real good. We've got a great car for tomorrow going for three in a row, so that should be a blast."

Brian Vickers finished third driving for Braun Racing, recovering from a pitroad violation for a loose lug nut and a sideways moment early in the race. Fellow Cup regulars Jeff Burton and Jamie McMurray followed him to the flag, while Joey Logano finished sixth as the best Nationwide series regular.

The 18-year-old lost a few spots in the closing stages of the race after running closer to the front earlier in the race.

"I thought we were sitting okay after that last pit stop because my pit crew is awesome and they did awesome pit stops," said Logano. "We gained like four spots at one time. That last caution tightened me up a little too much to really do much with anything. We had to get a balance at the end.

"We would have liked to run fast with Kyle (Busch) and those guys but I guess we'll take what we learn and go to the next one."

Title contender Brad Keselowski had a bad night in terms of his championship hopes as electrical issues forced him to go to his garage. He lost several laps in the process and could only manage 33rd place, which now puts him 204 points behind leader Clint Bowyer with eight races remaining.
