Kyle Busch wins Daytona Busch race

Kyle Busch took his first Busch series victory of the season with a dominant performance in the rain-delayed Winn-Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway

Busch was untouchable for most of the race, holding an uncontested lead up front during 65 of the 102 laps of drafting, with the race finishing under a green-white-chequer due to a late caution flag.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver took the lead for the first time on lap 21 after overtaking Clint Bowyer on the grass coming out of their first pitstops and he was never really challenged from then on.

"We've just had a great racecar all weekend long," Busch said. "We had it down in February and we should've won this thing in February but it all starts today. We're gonna take it from here.

"Our Cup car is really good too so I'm really looking forward to tonight's race as well. We came here this weekend and we haven't made but one or two adjustments on either car. We unloaded right off the truck really good."

Kevin Harvick came home second and only tried to have a run at Busch on the last restart going for the outside of him. But he was not really able to stay with him, let alone make a pass, as he did not get the necessary push from behind.

"I got up alongside him there but just ended up not having anyone left behind me," Harvick said. "The guys did a great job just coming back to have a chance with all the problems that we had today. Just all kinds of stuff going wrong that we were able to overcome."

Harvick led the first few laps of the race but then had to recover from two very bad pitstops, which dropped him as far down as 33rd place. However he clearly made the most of his car and the draft to put himself back in contention.

"We had a really strong car," he added. "I felt like whenever we could get to the front we could hold our position. We just never could quite get past the first car there but you know, still a great day for us and it was a lot of fun to race."

Dave Blaney, who had finished second behind Harvick in the first Busch Series race of the year at Daytona, followed the RCR car to the finish again, getting a solid third place in his Toyota, ahead of Tony Stewart's Chevrolet.

"We had a great car here in February and same thing today," Blaney said. "We got it handling better and better as the race went on.

"I really have to thank everybody at Toyota for these engines, they're phenomenal at these [restrictor] plate races. I think if we could've run up front one time it would've been over but we just couldn't get there."

Clint Bowyer, who led 22 laps, finished fifth rounding up a good race for Richard Childress Racing, while Kasey Kahne had his best result since winning at Charlotte, taking sixth as the best Dodge.

Juan Pablo Montoya added some thrills to the race saving his car from going into the wall twice. The Colombian ran as high as fifth and was a top contender for most of the race until he spun his car with two laps to go coming out of turn four when he was running seventh.

His car slid across the track and towards the inside wall completely sideways but he managed to prevent it from spinning completely and ended up on pit road, stopping immediately to change his flat-spotted tyres. He eventually finished 30th.

"Tony [Stewart] just got really loose and it screwed us," Montoya said. "I don't think he did it on purpose. I think he just run up on the racetrack and checked up and when I checked up I lost the car.

"We had a fast car. I had a top-five car. That's how races go, some go your way and some don't."

Carl Edwards was forced to start from the back of the field after making some changes to his car following qualifying. He managed to finish eleventh and now holds a 798-point lead over Harvick, who has moved back up to second place in the standings.
