Kyle Busch loses points lead
Kyle Busch had one of his toughest races of the year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where technical issues and an incident left him eighth in the Chase for the Sprint Cup
The 23-year-old started the race from pole but had a slight brush with the wall in the early going. A few laps later his car started to roll excessively in the corners, making it lose grip and making it difficult for Busch to keep up his pace.
When a competition caution came out on lap 35, Busch pitted immediately to have his car checked as the team suspected a loose or broken front sway bar was the root of the problem.
The team confirmed a suspension part had failed and lengthy stops were needed to try to fix it. Busch went a lap down in the process, but despite his crew's best efforts, the car was never competitive again and he lost more laps while trying to keep a visibly loose Toyota off the wall.
"We had a part failure and it's one of those things - you can't do nothing about," said Busch's crew chief Steve Addington. "We weren't very good when we unloaded here, but we felt like we did the right things and were going to have a good racecar.
"Part failure cost us so we'll just have to go back and re-evaluate."
Later on lap 83, Busch lost control of his car at the exit of turn four while getting on the throttle, spinning across the backstretch and into the grass before coming to a halt.
Behind him Jamie McMurray also spun and ended up crashing into the back of the No. 18 JGR car, causing further damage to it.
After that, Busch just stayed on the track completing the laps to eventually cross the finish line in 34th place, twelve laps down on race winner Greg Biffle.
The result means he is now eighth in the Chase, 74 points behind joint leaders Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson, which is the lowest ranking he has had all year long.
