Kenseth hoping for change of fortune

Matt Kenseth believes that he can put his poor record in the Daytona 500 behind him to take his first victory in the event this year

The 2003 Nextel Cup champion has a best finish of ninth in the season-opening event, but he feels that his Roush Racing Ford Fusion is strong enough to be competitive this year.

"We've had our fair share of disappointment in this race, but I always look forward to coming back," said Kenseth.

"I know the car we're bringing is going to be a good one, so if we can avoid the wrecks and have some things fall the right way for us, we should be in a position to compete for the win."

A Ford driver has not won at Daytona since Dale Jarrett in 2000, but Kenseth believes that luck is required to do well at Daytona and Talladega.

"In plate racing, at the end of the race there's only so much you can do," he said. "You rely on everyone else to help you.

"It seems lately we've had a car capable of winning these races but we haven't gotten the help we need at the end."

Kenseth had a strong car in the race last year, but his chances were ruined after he collided with Tony Stewart, and he was then penalised a lap for his retaliation towards the number 20 car.
