Hamlin would welcome Mexico round
Denny Hamlin doesn't believe it will be long before the NASCAR Nextel Cup series broadens its horizons and races in Mexico
Hamlin, who is racing in both the second-tier Busch series and the Nextel Cup this season, won this weekend's Busch race held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
NASCAR continues to be linked with moves outside American borders for the premier Nextel Cup, with races mooted in both Mexico and Canada.
Hamlin reckons that the Autodromo's facilities make it a perfect target for a Mexico Nextel Cup race, rather than having an oval built specially to tap into the Hispanic market.
"I'd love to come here to Mexico for a Cup race," Hamlin said. "I think it won't be long before NASCAR reaches out and goes somewhere outside the country. Hopefully they'll pick this race track.
"It's a great race track and you've got everything you need here. On top of that, we've got great hotel accommodations. It's a fun place to be.
"I think racing out of the country is definitely broadening NASCAR's future. I think a lot of people didn't want to go out of the country. They were afraid it would get out of hand.
"But it's just great. It's got new media here. It's a great deal for everyone - for Mexico and for the U.S."
