Fernandez to race again in Mexico
Adrian Fernandez will once again compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City at the wheel of the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, the team announced today
The 44-year-old Mexican will make his fourth attempt at taking victory at his home circuit, driving the same entry that he took to ninth place last year. The car will be fielded this time by JR Motorsports in partnership with the Hendrick team.
"I am honored by this opportunity," Fernandez said. "I know race fans in Mexico grow more excited about this race each year. I think this race will continue to grow and prove how popular NASCAR is becoming outside of America."
Fernandez, who tested the Nationwide Series machine at Sebring on November last year, will have a busy weekend from April 18 to 20, competing not only in the NASCAR race in Mexico but also at Long Beach in the American Le Mans event, where he fields his own team.
He plans to do practice on Friday at Mexico and leave the car to David Green for Saturday qualifying, as he will be racing his Lola-Acura at Long Beach that day, before returning to Mexico on Sunday for the NASCAR Nationwide race.
The former Champ Car and IRL IndyCar Series race-winner has nine Nationwide races to his credit, his best result being the ninth place he claimed in Mexico last year.
