Elliott in one-off CGR drive

NASCAR veteran Bill Elliott will make a one-off appearance for Chip Ganassi Racing in next month's Bud Shootout at Daytona. Elliott, who is planning to contest a limited Nextel Cup schedule in 2005 with his regular team Evernham Motorsports, will drive a Dodge Charger decked out in the colours of his former sponsor Coors

The brewery company supported Elliott from its entry into the NASCAR arena in 1984 until 1991 - the period during which "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" built his reputation and achieved most of his success, including the Winston Cup title in 1988.

In the Bud Shootout Elliott's Charger will sport the paint scheme he used in 1985, when he earned the Winston Million by winning three of the four major races of the season (the Daytona 500, the Winston 500 at Talladega and the Southern 500 at Darlington). In his eight seasons driving with Coors backing, Elliott racked up 33 race victories and 94 top-five finishes.

"I am really looking forward to partnering up with Coors Light again," said Elliott. "I think that this a great opportunity and I really like running that race. I think it is also going to be fun to work with my brother Ernie. Ernie worked on my motors when I was just starting out - now I get a chance to have him build my engines again and it is something I will thoroughly enjoy."

Chip Ganassi added: "I think this is a great way to honour Coors Brewing Company's history in racing. Coors had a long and successful affiliation with Bill and has been a sponsor with Felix [Sabates] and I since 1995. We look forward to having Bill in one of our cars and giving Coors the opportunity to celebrate the start of its 21st year in NASCAR."
