Edwards to race with injured thumb
Carl Edwards will race at Indianapolis with an injured thumb after he crashed during a Late Model race on a dirt track last weekend
The Roush Fenway driver was racing in an event at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska last Sunday when he hit the back of another car and was then subsequently involved in a 10-car pile up.
Edwards was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in West Omaha for precautionary x-rays and a preliminary examination, which revealed that he had only suffered a dislocated right thumb.
He was released the next day and according to a statement from his team he also consulted a physician in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri, who confirmed the initial diagnosis.
Edwards' brother and father were also competing in the event at Greenwood, which took place on a very slick track due to some rain that delayed the start of the 25-lap race.
Roush Fenway Racing president Geoff Smith confirmed in a team statement that Edwards will be able to race this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and in the Busch Series race at O'Reilly Raceway Park.
Before racing at Greenwood last Sunday, Edwards had finished sixth on Saturday night in the Busch Series race at Gateway International Raceway.
