Bowyer wins Dover Busch race
Clint Bowyer earned his first NASCAR Busch Series victory of 2006 by holding off Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick in a one lap showdown at Dover
"It feels good," said Bowyer. "I struggled in practice and really was concerned about the race. But I held on in there for about 15 laps and then it came in pretty good.
"Everybody at RCR (Richard Childress Racing) has done a really good job and if they can make me fast, they can make anyone fast..."
The green-white-chequered flag finish was prompted by Martin Truex Jr's late spin.
Until encountering problems with his right rear tyre 30 laps from the end, Truex Jr appeared to be the most likely victor.
He had passed polesitter Scott Riggs for the lead on lap 41, and then fought back through to reclaim the position from Jamie McMurray after differing pit stop strategy dropped Truex down the order briefly.
But then a sudden loss of grip saw him plummet to the foot of the top ten, and he would eventually fall to 27th after his spin.
Kenseth picked up the lead as Truex hit trouble, but only for a handful of laps before Bowyer asserted himself. Although Kenseth nosed ahead a few times in the closing stages, Bowyer would not be deposed.
"I just couldn't quite get him," said Kenseth. "We were just a little loose off the corners all day. It wasn't quite right, but the guys did a good job and it was a lot of fun racing Clint and Kevin."
Third place was a typically stealthy result for runaway points leader Harvick. Having qualified a disappointing 24th, Harvick edged his way into contention quietly but effectively.
"We just didn't qualify very well and had to take our time working up through the traffic," he said. "We wound up right up there where we needed to be at the end.
"I was really nervous going into today - it's not my best track as a driver. But it worked out really good."
Early leader Riggs lost ground with a poor pit stop and a spin, and could only recover to 12th.
