Nelson Piquet to make Nationwide return at Road America
Nelson Piquet is set to make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start of the year in this month's road course event at Road America
The Brazilian will drive the #30 Chevrolet for Turner Motorsports, the same team he races for in the Truck Series, making only his second NASCAR start on a road course.
His previous NASCAR non-oval experience came in 2010 at Watkins Glen, his Nationwide Series debut, where he drove for team owner Mike Curb, finishing seventh.
Piquet's Elkhart Lake outing will only be his third in NASCAR's second-tier series, following last year's season-finale at Homestead.
"I'm really looking forward to making my first Nationwide Series start of the season," said Piquet. "I earned a top-10 in my very first Nationwide Series start, my first start on a road course in NASCAR, and I've grown a lot as a driver in the two years since then.
"The two tracks are quite different, but I spent a lot of my career on road courses before coming to NASCAR. The Turner Motorsports cars have been performing extremely well in the Nationwide Series this year, getting a win already in Daytona, so my expectation is that we can bring home a victory."
The former Formula 1 driver claimed his maiden NASCAR win earlier this year at Bristol, driving for X-Team Racing in the K&N East Series.
