Beretta: Rain will help Corvette
Olivier Beretta believes that the wet weather conditions that blighted the start of this year's Petit Le Mans could play into the hands of the Corvette team
The Monagasque, who along with co-drivers Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fassler, started the Road Atlanta race third in the GT2 class, says that the new C6.R GT2 machine suits the rainy conditions.
"We did some laps in practice at Mosport, and the car performs very well in the wet conditions," said the former Le Mans GT1 winner. "Even though we have had to take the direct injection off the car [following complaints from some rivals], I think the car will be good.
"It does make the car more difficult to control in the wet, because of the way the power comes in, but it handles very well."
Beretta admitted that with Corvette having only removed the injection system in the run up to the race, there had been no time to properly re-calibrate and prepare the car.
"It is like preparing for a big football match, and then being asked to play with no boots just before the kick-off!" he said.
"Anyway anything can happen in a race like this, and it is long, and this team knows how to race in these conditions."
Beretta added that since Pratt & Miller had switched to GT2 racing, he was enjoying racing against multiple manufacturers.
"Racing against Aston Martin at Le Mans was great fun, but now we have so many manufacturers, Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and soon even the Jaguar, it is fantastic.
"As for what we expect for today, I am not thinking about 10pm yet, because anything can happen even with 10 minutes to go."
